RTD finds meth 'or similar substance' at Downtown Boulder Station

Daily Camera - 1/10/2023

Jan. 10—RTD has closed restrooms in its Downtown Boulder Station transit facility after confirming the presence of methamphetamine "and/or similar substances" in both restrooms and an adjacent hallway.

"RTD recently received reports of a strong odor coming from the restroom area" of the facility at 1800 14th St., the transit agency announced on its website Tuesday. "RTD conducted testing through a third party, which confirmed levels of methamphetamine and/or similar substances exceeding Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) limits."

The agency said that for the safety of customers and employees, it has closed the restrooms and hallway and will keep them inaccessible until remediation can be performed. RTD said additional areas might be closed if further testing reveals potentially harmful levels of contaminants.

The Boulder Public Library was closed Dec. 20 after methamphetamine contamination was discovered in the facility's public-facing restrooms. While the library has reopened to the public, it has not allowed public access to its restrooms.
